Discovering Historical Landmarks
- Thompson’s Station Train Depot: The Thompson’s Station Train Depot stands as a reminder of the town’s railroad roots. After the original depot was destroyed during the Battle of Thompson’s Station in 1863, a new one was built in 1866. This served as a vital hub for local farmers and merchants, so much so that the town even earned the nickname “German Millet Capital of the World” due to its high grain shipments. Today’s train depot is, unfortunately, just a replica built in 1993 after the second depot was dismantled in 1952. However, it stays true to the historic design thanks to donations from local organizations and residents. The restored depot serves as a symbol of the town’s railroad history and offers a charming backdrop for photography. History lovers and visitors alike enjoy learning about the town’s past while admiring the classic architecture and nostalgic atmosphere. You can find the Thompson’s Station train depot marker at 1550 Thompson Road West.
- Homestead Manor: Few landmarks in Thompson’s Station hold as much historical significance as Homestead Manor at 4683 Columbia Pike. Construction of this stunning antebellum home began in 1809 by Francis Giddens and was completed in 1819. A grand example of Georgian architecture, the manor has been a silent witness to centuries of change– including the Battle of Thompson’s Station during the Civil War. Over the years, Homestead Manor has transformed to serve the community in new ways. Between 2015 and 2019, it operated as a farm-to-table restaurant, offering fresh, locally sourced cuisine. Today, the property functions as a premier event venue, hosting weddings, gatherings, and special celebrations in a breathtaking historic setting. You can also stop by 1819 Coffee— an on-site cafe that pays tribute to the manor’s completion year— to enjoy a cup of coffee (or tea) while soaking in the estate’s rich history.

1819 Coffee: (4683 Columbia Pike Unit B, Thompson’s Station, TN) - Some places serve coffee, and some tell a story with every cup. 1819 Coffee does both. Located on the grounds of the historic Homestead Manor, this locally loved cafe offers craft coffee in a setting that’s rich in history. The manor, built in 1819 (hence the cafe’s name!) underwent multiple functions over the years, but it’s now a stunning event space and the go-to spot in Thompson’s Station for expertly brewed drinks. The menu features classic espresso beverages and High Garden teas. But do try their signature lattes. The Thompson is a honey and lavender latte topped with a spray of orange bitters, while the Roderick is a sweeter concoction with bourbon, brown sugar, and sea salt flavors.1819 Coffee is open Monday through Saturday from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM (closed on Sundays).
