It is important to do an exterior visual check of your home as winter approaches. (LCT Team – Parks Listing –9233 Old Smyrna Road, Brentwood.)

Fall Home MaintenanceTips

When transitioning from summer to fall, it is a good idea to do a visual check on the exterior of your home while testing your safety equipment as well when you change your clocks!

#1 Clean Gutters, Down Spouts

As the leaves begin to fall, your gutters begin to get clogged. Making sure they’re clean can stop water pooling on your roof and siding, therefore stopping damage.

Be sure you home gutters and down spouts are clear for fall weather like this beautifully maintained home in 12 South. ( Click here for more info on the Marabeth Poole, LCT Team – Parks new listing. )

#2 Check Exterior For Repairs

Take a walk around your home and check for any exterior repairs that need to be made. Look for damage to your roof, siding and foundation. Making these repairs before winter hits will be better in the long run.

#3 Update Weather Stripping

Applying weather stripping around your windows and door frames keeps the warm in and the cold out. It also helps to cut energy costs and adding door sweeps to the base of your doors can get rid of drafts.

As we transition into fall and winter, be sure weather stripping around windows and doors is maintained like this beautiful home at 309 West End Place Nashville, (Click for more information on this LCT Team listing.)

#4 Clean Fire Place And Dryer Vents

If you like a cozy, wood-burning fire, be sure you are cleaning your chimney. And, many times, the same company which cleans chimneys can inspect your dryer vent.

Annual fireplace cleanings and inspections are important. While at it, don’t forget to have your dryer vent checked as well. (Click for additional photos of this 9233 Old Smyrna Rd LCT Team listing.)

Over time, lint builds up in dryer vents, causing your dryer to work less efficiently and can even cause a fire. Cleaning out your ducts will guarantee a quicker working dryer and a decreased chance of fire.

#5 Test Safety Devices

Checking your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors is a simple way to keep your home maintained. Test them to make sure they’re working properly and/or replace the batteries as needed. We also recommend checking the expiration date on your fire extinguisher and replacing it if needed.
