Breathing new life into historical properties while also creating high-end custom homes around the Nashville area is the driving passion of the Brit Development Group team, our profile this month.
Britt Development Group Profile
Led by Brian Layton, in partnership with his wife, Sarah, the long-time builder established his own building and development company almost seven years ago to create a legacy within the beautiful, architectural landscape of Nashville.
After growing up in Colorado, Brian made his way to the Music City working first with a production builder and was eventually mentored by Legend Homes’ President Doug Herman, one of the best in the industry. Today, Britt Development’s niche is the 12th South Area, Belmont, Green Hills and Williamson County and they take a very special approach to their projects says Brian.
“At the heart of our process is treating each renovation or new build as if we were the future homeowners. We build houses we want to live in and are very proud of every single one,” Brian said. “We also approach historic and new projects as if they are houses that have been there forever and we want to breathe new life into the homes from design and materials to creating character.”
2021 has been a busy year for the company with 34 homes in the planning phase or under construction in the 12th South, Belmont and Green Hills area with one underway in The Troubadour Golf & Field Club in College Grove. Britt Development’s team includes Russ Mabry as director of construction, and Brian’s brother, Rich Layton, who oversees vendor relationships and is a designer liaison for the company.
Realtor Relationships Make A Difference
One element which has made a difference for his business is partnering with great legacy Realtors in the industry whose relationships he greatly values including Realtor Lisa Culp Taylor.
“Lisa’s understanding of building adds so much value to the planning and designing and she knows what buyers are looking for. She’s also successful and one of her biggest successes is establishing an all-female team of strong women which she mentors in a good and humble way. That’s something I also respect,” Brian said.
The LCT Team – Parks has an upcoming project with Britt Development which should hit the market in spring of 2022 and Lisa has also helped in the development of the home.
Other projects on the horizon include the building and development of a boutique community of 19 homes in the historic Belmont area at the corner of 10th Avenue South and South Douglas Avenue. Named Douglas Corner it hasn’t been formally announced but the project has gone through planning and zoning.
“I’m very excited about the future of creating new homes with architectural integrity while helping preserve some very worthwhile properties that help make the Nashville area a very special place to live,” Brian said.
