Summer Fun With Kids – Part 2

Hey, you!  Yes!  You…the lovely, attentive and blog-reading client who listened to my “shout it from the rooftops” mantra that spring and early summer are ideal times to list a house for sale and then entrusted me to sell your home.  Mission Accomplished!  And now we exhale, right?  Ummm… not quite.  Yes, the open houses and the last minute showings are a thing of the past, but now it’s time for inspections and final repairs and then packing and cleaning and, and… well, it’s just possible that you and your little ones might need a few ideas for some R&R, Nashville/Williamson County style.  And I just happen to have a few suggestions… imagine that!

I think that middle Tennessee is the best place on the entire planet to live.  Besides the warm and wonderful people that call Nashville and surrounding areas home, it is just downright beautiful here.  Take a little drive down any country lane and you’ll be awed by bright green pastures, huge trees draping over the roadway and stone walls or white fencing dotting the countryside.  We boast four distinct seasons with a pretty mild winter, spring and fall.  But, let’s be honest.  The summers can be a bit warmish.  And there are just days – no matter how pretty it looks from inside the comfort of your centrally air-conditioned home, that you need to stay indoors… but not at home!  So… here are three, sure-fire destinations to keep you and your wee ones entertained and cool!

You’ve undoubtedly noticed the Adventure Science Center as you’ve driven down 1-65.  The pyramid-like planetarium is pretty distinctive and it’s probably one of those things you’ve always thought you should do with your kiddos, right?  Well, don’t delay.  This amazing facility is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm and is home to six permanent exhibits (including the “out of this world” Space Chase!) and is currently wowing kids with a visiting exhibit that includes robotic arms, interactive computers and more!

Every Tuesday and Wednesday, Regal Cinemas at The Mall at Green Hills hosts their “Summer Movie Express.”  With a wide selection of movies and only $1 per ticket, you can visit again and again… and even have money left over for popcorn!  Tickets must be purchased at the theater (sorry, Fandango-lovers!) and each movie starts at 10:00 a.m.  Best of all, a portion of the proceeds from these movies goes to The Will Rogers Institute.  Talk about your feel-good fun…

Do the kids have more energy than the grown-ups and you need an activity that will wear them out while you sit a spell?  Look no farther than the Brentwood Skate Center.  In addition to providing you a big dose of nostalgia (seriously… this place still feels like your 80’s skating rink!), it will provide hours of skating fun for your little ones.   Even newbie skaters can get in on the action.  The Skate Center provides “walkers on wheels” for kids of all ages who need a little security as they’re learning about life in the fast lane!  Check out their website for hours of operation, information about skating lessons and skate times reserved specifically for young children.
Hope this list gives you some great ideas of how to stay cool and keep your cool as we check off those final “to-do’s” and prepare for your home’s closing.  Remember, selling your home and maintaining your sanity is all about pacing yourself, taking some time away from those not-so-fun tasks and letting your friendly Realtor worry for a bit about the details.
