With a population of 165,430, Murfreesboro is the largest suburb of Nashville and the sixth-most populous city in Tennessee. Murfreesboro was originally named Cannonsburgh in 1811, but was later renamed after Revolutionary War hero Colonel Hardy Murfree. It briefly served as Tennessee’s state capital from 1818 to 1826 before Nashville took over the role.

The city played a significant role in the Civil War, with the Battle of Stones River taking place nearby in 1862, a pivotal conflict that shaped the war’s outcome.
